Guest Post by Uzuri M. Wilkerson - Sweet

Witnessing a brutal murder at work is only the beginning of Celia's problems. The fact that the victim is a vampire only proves to complicate her life even more. The vampires of New England have always had an undetected existence among humans but with the unprovoked death of one of their own, the lust for revenge has begun. Celia's concerns are magnified when a hunter from Dallas arrives in town. With Jay's sexy smile and rugged ways, Celia finds herself wanting to spend time with him despite being mysteriously linked to the nest that is threatening to become extinct if Jay gets his way. When four bodies are found drained of blood; Jay teams up with a local bunch to take out all the undead which coincidentally, includes her boyfriend Victor. Celia won't stand seeing anything happen to Victor but refuses to hurt Jay as well. Confusion, lust, rage and violence intertwine as worlds collide. Celia will soon discover that her neat little existence is not what it seems as her cryptic past and present start to unravel.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to contribute to your lovely blog. I decided to take a moment and create a little aside from Sweet—a little fan fiction, if you will—to whet your appetite for the Bitten series. This could be any given morning at Cage’s Bar and Lounge. The employees receive great news and their stern boss overhears:

Cage’s Bar and Lounge has been open for business for fifteen minutes now. The servers, having organized their sections already, wait in the kitchen for the first customers of the day. Celia, Maria, and Tina—all dressed in black with their aprons cinched at their waists—sit around the prep table, working on a crossword puzzle in the morning’s Metro. Trevor and Carson stand beside them, drinking coffee. Across the room, the three chefs dance and rap along to “Best I Ever Had” while setting up the stoves.

The room is quiet besides the music. Without warning, the kitchen door swings open. The breeze from the sudden motion rustles the Metro. Edward rushes inside, his brown eyes wide. In his hands, he grasps a newspaper clipping. He waves it to the room. A huge smile breaks the corners of his face.

Everyone frowns at him, at his glee. Edward tosses the clipping. Their eyes follow as it sails in the air until it lands gracefully on the silver table. The girls lean in.

Boston’s Top Ten Hottest Nightclubs

#1 ……

#2 ……

#3 Cage’s Bar and Lounge

Downtown

Believe it or not but this restaurant is one of the best places to grab a drink and get your dance on. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, the tables and chairs are shoved aside. The sexiest dancers in town take to their cages to tease the crowd with their wicked moves. They couldn’t rile you up without the young DJs spinning the very current hits from the region. Make sure you find a space at the bar where the hot, competent bartenders will quench your thirst and give your eyes toothaches, they’re so delectable.

#4 ……

Smiles and cheers erupt throughout the kitchen. Maria and Tina clasp hands and spin around the room. “Down” is currently playing on the radio. Everyone sings along.

The kitchen door swings open once more. The mirth in the room halts abruptly. Bobby, Cage’s Bar and Lounge’s stern owner and manager, fills the doorway. He scowls at them. He wants to know what is going on. He can hear their raucous celebration on the main floor.

The servers and chefs glance to the floor, shuffle their feet, scratch their temples. Edward bravely steps forward. His hand extends. The clipping trembles. Bobby surveys it a moment before taking it. As his eyes scan the paper, his brow loosens. He tries to hide his contented smile and fails. His employees look at each other with muted excitement.

He nods once. Good work, he tells them gruffly. He turns for the door, the article still in hand. Over his shoulder, he glances back. Carry on, he concludes before leaving them.

Their laughter and cheers follow behind him.
