Ursa Unearthed by J.L. Madore: Interview + Giveaway

Ursa Unearthed (Scourge Survivor Series #2)
by J.L. Madore

Genre: Fantasy Romance
Number of pages: 340
Cover Artist: David Wysotski

Mika’s life has never been normal, but it’s hers.

After being told by the Great Spirit to stand up for the Earth Mother’s children and “save the great species from extinction,” she buries herself in an investigative journalism career hunting down poachers and exposing illegal trade in wildlife exotics. A survivor by nature, she would rather fight injustice than maneuver the hassles and heartache of relationships anyway.

When danger suddenly finds her unprepared, Mika’s perception of her life is shattered and she is hurled into a realm of magic and murder she does not understand. Seduced by Bruin, the powerful and sexy warrior who saves her life, Mika is catapulted into a world where Were-creatures and Scourge assassins threaten not only her life but her heart as well.

With the boundary between worlds crumbling, Mika realizes that her destiny to save the great species will draw her deeper into a reality more terrifying to her than anything she has faced before.

Trusting in love.

J.L. Madore, lover of family, animals and chocolate has a soft spot for romance and a hot button for sexy stories. She didn't find writing so much as it found her. Waking each morning with a vivid cast of characters tangled in chaos in her head, it seemed essential to capture them on the page.

Q & A with Author J.L. Madore

Tell us a little bit about your main characters.

Mika is an independent First Nations woman raised by her grandfather. After seeing the dysfunctional love/obligation between her parents and how they ended up, she has decided to boycott the whole love thing altogether.

We met Bruin in book one as the adopted brother of "Blaze". He is the Were Bear King and loves deeply and without reservation despite the tragedy of his own childhood. When he stumbles upon Mika and realizes what they could be together, he is determined to win her love.

Describe your ideal writing spot.
On my bed with all the pillows propped up behind me. I set my laptop on my stomach and lean the screen against my bent knees.

Who designed the covers for your book and what was that process like for you as the author?

David Wysotski is my artist. He's a local talent and a friend. I love that process. We collaborate a little, I send him a few internet pictures of how I see my characters and include some snippets of scenes. He transforms that into a rough sketch and then into a working drawing.

What is the best advice you have been given?

AIS – Ass In Seat. If you're not there, you're not writing.

How do you keep busy when you're not writing?

Kids, family, house, pets, friends….the usual stuff.

If you could have any superhuman ability, what would you choose and why?

Oddly, this comes up a lot around our house and my answer always differs. I think today it would be telekinesis…or maybe flight…or shifting forms (that would be so cool)

Which do you prefer: hard/paperbacks or ebooks?

Paperbacks

What book are you reading now?

Molly O'Keefe's 'Between the Sheets'. I booked her as a guest speaker for the writing organization I'm VP of and I'm getting ready for her talk. She's an awesome lady and a talented romance novelist.

Darkest Flame by Donna Grant

Darkest Flame (Dark Kings, #1)Darkest Flame by Donna Grant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

ARC provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Darkest Flame is one steamy paranormal romance. Dragons have never been so alluring, throw in the Fae, and a secret spy agency, MI5. What more could you ask for?

Denae Lacroix is an American MI5 agent. She is sent on a dangerous mission to gather information on Dreagan Industries based in the Scottish Highlands. Denae's mission quickly turns deadly. Kellan has been asleep for centuries. Disturbing a sleeping dragon can be dangerous! Denae will soon find out how dangerous. Can she trust the mysterious man that comes to her rescue?

Denae is a well trained agent that won't stop till the job is done. Kellan is a Dragon King. He has used his strength and integrity to protect dragons and humans alike. Denae and Kellan have sizzling chemistry. I thought the characters and plot were well written. My only problem with this story was that there were continued references to things that happened in the past that weren't fully explained. Despite this confusion, I really enjoyed this book and plan on continuing this series.

Publisher: Sarah G. Greyson LLC
Number of pages: 278
Cover Artist: Cover Me Darling

They always wanted to fix him. Didn’t they realize there was no fixing his kind of broke?

Haunted by the loss of his beloved fiancée a year and a half ago at the hands of a terrorist cell, ex-Green Beret Rob Fabik doesn’t know how to let go. The sounds and sights of her death replay in his mind, and he tortures himself with the guilt he feels over not being able to save her life, distracting himself with alcohol and women.

Attending Harvard University, Lola Sardeson is a down-to-earth, rich girl who is tired of living under her father’s thumb. One night out with friends quickly turns into a nightmare as she is kidnapped from a busy Boston nightclub. Her nightmare intensifies as she learns that the Ortiz Cartel sells young, innocent girls into the sex-slave trade.

The Unit’s mission is to rescue Lola from the nefarious clutches of the Ortiz Cartel. From the instant Rob sees Lola, she touches something deep inside him, drawing out his protective nature. These feelings only serve to intensify the guilt he feels over losing his dead fiancée.

Forced by circumstance under the same roof, Lola inspires Rob to grow stronger. Can he suppress his feelings for Lola, or will guilt consume him alive? Can he forgive himself for not saving his fiancée? Can Rob save Lola and protect her from the greedy hands of the Ortiz Cartel?

Sarah Greyson is an Amazon Best Selling author. She lives in Virginia with her husband, two children, and four spoiled animals. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Communications with a concentration in Professional Writing and her Master's Degree in Education.

When she is not writing or spending time with her family, she loves reading sizzling romantic suspense novels that make her blush. She loves a glass of pinot grigio, back-yard barbecues with friends and family, and helping her kids with their homework (in that order).

Her interests span all genres: from Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger to Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury to Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen to Slave by Shari Hayes to The Art of Happiness by Dalai Lama XIV. Sarah's favorite genres are contemporary romantic suspense and erotic suspense; the types of novels she crafts. While the concepts are familiar and comfortable, she brings her own unique story and personality to everything she writes. She loves the feeling of crafting a spicy, action-packed novel. Writing is her passion. She wants to leave her readers breathless after experiencing the intense ride that is her novel.

Q & A with Author Sarah Greyson

Tell us a little bit about your main characters.
Rob is an ex-Green Beret who lost the love of his life to a terrorist cell in the first novel “Closer.” Lizzie, Rob’s dead fiancée died a horrible death. Her death plagues his mind, torturing him with sounds and images. To cope with the guilt he feels over not being able to save her, he turns towards alcohol and women. Tony, Michael, and Steve are members of The Unit and secondary characters in the novel. The men all served five tours in war-torn Afghanistan together during their time in the Army.

Lola is a down-to-earth, rich girl who attends Harvard University because her father wanted her to. She has spent her life living under her father’s thumb and relishes the freedom that college life brings. Her father still tells her who she has to befriend, but she is living on her own in a brownstone that her father purchased for her and has a good group of girlfriends. Lola is enjoying her freedom one evening at a Boston nightclub when she is kidnapped by the nefarious Ortiz Cartel.

Describe your ideal writing spot.
Ideally, I would have my desk set up next to a window that overlooked the ocean. Being able to smell the salt air and watch the waves crash onto the shore would keep me in the zone longer.

Who designed the covers for your book and what was that process like for you as the author?
Marisa Shor with Cover Me Darling photographed and designed my cover for Stronger. As an author, the process is one of the easier things I have had to do. I explained to her that I wanted, an almost kiss shot, for the cover and left the rest up to her.

What is the best advice you have been given?
Hire a PA. That way I can keep writing and not be bogged down with the million other things indie authors have to do.

How do you keep busy when you're not writing?
If I am not writing, I am reading.

If you could have any superhuman ability, what would you choose and why?
Teleportation: I would love the ability to transport myself to any place in the world with just a thought.

Which do you prefer: hard/paperbacks or ebooks?
I prefer paperbacks, unless I absolutely have to have the book on my bookshelf, then I need the hardback. However, I read so much that I have found it necessary to invest in a Kindle because I do not have room to keep all of the books I read and still live in my home. I can’t give away a book I have purchased; it is my obsession.

What book are you reading now?
“One More Chance” by Abbi Glines
