Fallen by Lauren Kate
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I listened to the audio book of Fallen.
Fallen is the story of Luce, a 17-year-old girl sent to a boarding school for troubled teens. Her first day at the school she meets her fellow students, some who she seems to hit it off with immediately, and then there's Daniel. Luce is instantly inexplicably drawn to Daniel, but he very obviously wants nothing to do with her.
The story follows Luce through her days at Sword & Cross as she learns the ropes and tries to figure out how to fit in and stay out of trouble. She makes a couple of friends, Arriane and Penn, to help her out, and of course an enemy to set the balance. Though Luce is fascinated by Daniel and her unexplained attraction to him, she is adequately distracted by Cam, the "other" hot guy at the school.
The characters in this book are fun and each has their own personality. I liked the setting the author was able to create and the effect portrayed through her descriptions of the school and surroundings. I ultimately enjoyed the story, but I felt it was a bit slow at times. Through the whole book we know that Luce is different, but nothing else really seems to be happening, and the ending, although had a bit more action, didn't really answer many questions.
All in all, this was a good book and I will be listening to the next one in the series to find out what happens. Hopefully we will find out more about Luce and Daniel and see more of Cam.
