Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have read the Mercy Thompson series and the Alpha & Omega series by Patricia Briggs, that is why I was so excited to receive an advanced copy of Dead Heat. I was happy to get back in the world that Patricia Briggs's creates.
Charles is the enforcer for his father's pack. Anna is the Omega of the pack. She brings calm to the sometimes volatile life of the pack and its members. Anna is the balm her mate, Charles needs. She soothes his troubled soul. Life of an enforcer is not easy, especially for Charles. Thankfully Charles and Anna are free for once of his enforcer duties, and are able to visit an old friend to see about buying Anna a horse for her birthday. Trouble is not far behind. Charles and Anna's skills will be needed when they cross paths with a dangerous Fae targeting children. Will they be able to find the Fae in time to save the life of a child?
The interplay of Charles and Anna is always a win for me. In this book, the reader is able to see them in a more relaxed environment, than what is normally the case. Therefore, we get a more in-depth look at the interworking's of their relationship. While I enjoyed that insight and the action that ensued with the Fae, this one was a little slow for me. The emotional impact of some scenes in the book is what saved it for me. It is not my favorite of the Alpha & Omega series, but it is still one I will re-read in the future. I can't wait to see what happens next!
