Whitney Leighton has a secret. She is both blind and deaf but that’s not what she’s trying to keep hidden. Her secret is that she can both see and hear through her twin brother Tommy. They call it piggybacking because she can shift her consciousness into her brother’s mind.

Whitney’s not the only one with a secret; Tommy has one too and it’s Whitney that he’s keeping it from. His secret is that Whitney isn’t who she’s supposed to be. He has dreams of her, but in his dreams she has tattoos, battle-scars on her face, and a formidable look of determination. If Tommy’s dreams come true then Whitney is in serious trouble and so is everyone else. The simple Whitney that is, doesn’t stand a chance against the evil that exists in his sleep, and the world will be thrust into chaos.

The teen twins end up at Camp Tumbling Waters and Lake Amicolola where something is waiting for them. Something as dark as Whitney’s vision and as insane as Tommy’s dreams and IT needs Whitney to escape the prison that IT calls … Nethermore.

Q & A with Author Chris Podhola

Tell us a little bit about your main characters, Whitney and Tommy.
Whitney and Tommy were originally born in another dimension and sent here to collect a fugitive from their world.  The only way they could be sent is to be born here in our world, but being born here cost them all of their memories from the other world.  Fortunately, for them, they still have the talents that they had before.  Whitney is blind and deaf, and Tommy has telekinesis, and Whitney can slip her mind into Tommy’s.  It’s the only way that she can see and hear so she spends the first sixteen years of her life living through Tommy’s eyes and ears.  That can’t continue, however, because Tommy’s dreams are leading the twins toward danger.  He sees an event happening at Camp Tumbling Waters, an event that costs many lives, and he feels it is up to him and his sister to stop the event from happening.  What he doesn’t know is that it is the fugitive from their world, calling him there, because IT needs Whitney to escape the prison that IT calls … Nethermore.

What is the best advice you have been given?
Keep writing.  It really is the key to success.  Every time I finish another work I look back at it and realize that it is better than what I had written before.  My writing is always improving and it is through more writing that I will continue to improve.

How has your environment/upbringing colored your writing?
I was raised in farm country.  I am a country boy at heart, and I think that does come through in my writing.  I tend to keep things as simple as possible and find little bits of color along the way, but without focusing too much on being fancy.

Describe your ideal writing spot.
Wherever I’m at.  If I have the time to do it, I want to write, and I don’t care where I’m at.  I’ve wasted enough time already.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Japan.  I’ve been to Europe, and its beautiful.  I am fascinated by foreign cultures and the Japanese culture is particularly interesting.

If you could have any superhuman ability, what would you choose and why?
I would want to fly.  Getting from place to place would be so much faster and easier and it would be awesome to be able to get a sky point view any time I wanted.

Which do you prefer: hard/paperbacks or ebooks?
Paperback/hard most definitely.  I hate reading from a computer screen.

What book are you reading now?
Velocity by Dean Koontz. I just ran across a copy that was lying around. I’d never gotten around to reading it before so I picked it up. It latches you from page one and won’t let you go.
