Q: Tell us a little bit about your main characters.
In book one, the main characters are Mira and Michael, along with their gang of friends. They have some special abilities that they are forced to call on when one of the family gets in trouble. In later books, other characters will be the main characters, though all the characters from Book 1 stay in the series.
Q: What was your favorite scene to write?
I am a big fan of psychological suspense and transformation so my favorite scenes to write were the ones that culminated in the transformation of characters. The pay-off, if you will.
Q: What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
I am very lucky in that my husband is an architectural millman and he basically built me an office/library in our house. All my books (I am a bibliophile too) and writing is done in that room, except for all the blank books and notebooks I have scattered everywhere so I can write down ideas when they pop up. I tend to write in spurts so my schedule will be very intense then very non-writing, but during that non-writing time I am percolating ideas and building them into fuller scenes and stories in my head.
Q: How has your environment/upbringing colored your writing?
It actually influences my writing significantly. I've led a very planned out course in life and part of that was to learn a great deal so I am always bringing some of that knowledge and experience into my writing.
Q: If you could be any character from your book, who would you be and why?
Oh, probably Stu. He has the best grasp on the new generation's abilities and as an author I have tons of things in store for him so he would be the most interesting character to take on for awhile.
Q: What do you do to unwind and relax?
Read other books, play on the computer (too much), and spend time with my husband.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I have traveled before as part of my jobs as well as for recreation. I would like to see London and Paris though. Haven't been there. Paris, because it was a center for writers/poets/artists for so long, and London because it is a current center for many things, much like New York, USA, but for Europe.
Q: What book are you reading now?
I am about to get "The Empathy Exams" by Leslie Jamison from Graywolf Press. It is a collection of essays, which is another form that I like to write, so I'm interested to see a book in that format that is current and critically acclaimed. Thanks!
