Kate Baray begins her new paranormal romance series with Lost Library, a tale
of werewolves, magic, adventure and romance.
John Braxton arrives unannounced
on Lizzie’s doorstep. Little does she know that when she invites him to a drink
on the porch, Lizzie opens the door to a secret world of werewolves—oops, they
don’t like that name!—Lycan, magic, spelled books, and power hungry evildoers.
Caught up in one man’s search for power, Lizzie soon begins to uncover
surprising secrets about her own past and powers.
And romance with a serious but
sexy Lycan? It might just happen…
Shut Up & Read would like to welcome Kate Baray! Thanks for being with us today!
Q: Tell us a little bit about your main characters.
Lizzie: Loves tea, but drinks hot chocolate when it’s been a really bad day. Thinks purple flowers are the best. Had her heart broken when she was 29 and is shy of romantic entanglements, as a result.
John: Lycan, Alpha of the Texas Pack, turns furry but only when he wants to. Secretly is a cat guy but would prefer it not get out. Does not like the nickname Fluffy.
Kenna: Think s Lizzie is a walking matchmaking target and is ready to set her up with any eligible guy …even a handsome Lycan.
Max: Loves flying helicopters, thinks Kenna is a babe, and might be a big romantic at heart.
Q: What was your favorite scene to write?
The first chapter, because that scene was both my first creative writing effort as an adult and what got me started writing professionally. I also enjoyed writing the final fight scene, but more because it was difficult for me and I felt a sense of accomplishment when it was done.

Q: What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
I write until I can’t write any more…or I fall asleep. I’m most productive late at night, so that’s always a hazard. I also owe a shout out to my search and rescue team for letting me be “victim” on a the longer problems, so that I can sit in the woods and quietly type as a K9 team hunts me down.
Q: How has your environment/upbringing colored your writing?
I’m not sure, specifically. Moving frequently as a child meant I was the new kid a lot. That probably led to reading more than I might have otherwise. And like most writers, I’m an avid reader.
Q: If you could be any character from your book, who would you be and why?
Max. Not only does he not get airsick on helicopters – he can fly one! (And yes, I do get horribly airsick on a small copter.) He’s also a great writer!
Q: What do you do to unwind and relax?
Read, naturally :) I also have a TV addiction that occasionally flares up and results in binge television watching. I’m especially fond of British mystery. I highly recommend “Foyle’s War” if that genre appeals to you. But don’t blame me for any resulting FW marathons you may be tempted into. I did just recently get caught up on Dr. Who.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Prague. I write about it in Lost Library, but it’s been ages since I’ve been. It was one of my favorite spots when I used to travel more frequently. I’d also like to see Scotland. I’ve never been and it sounds like a fun place. If you happen to see a Scotland cameo in a future book, you’ll know I snuck away and made a quick trip.
Q: What book are you reading now?
I’m beta reading for a dear friend, Lori Ryan. I’m just getting started on the second book in her Evers series. If you like contemporary romance, check her out :)
