Driven by K. Bromberg

Title:  Driven

Series:  The Driven Trilogy Book One

Author:  K. Bromberg

Genre:   Erotic Romance / Contemporary Romance

Page Count:  417

Cover Artist:  Tugboat Designs

Book Description:  Rylee Thomas is used to being in control. But she’s about to meet the one man that just might make her enjoy losing it…

I am the exception to the rule.

In a world full of willing women, I’m a challenge to the roguish and achingly handsome Colton Donavan. A man used to getting exactly what he wants in all aspects of life. He’s the reckless bad boy constantly skating that razor thin edge toward out of control, on and off of the track.

Colton crashes into my life like a tornado: sapping my control, testing my vulnerabilities beyond their limits, and unintentionally penetrating the protective wall around my healing heart. Tearing apart the world I rebuilt so carefully with structure, predictability, and discipline.

I can’t give him what he wants and he can’t give me what I need. But after a glimpse beneath his refined exterior into the dark secrets of his damaged soul, can I bring myself to walk away?

Our sexual chemistry is undeniable. Our individual need for complete control is irrefutable. But when our worlds collide, is the chemistry enough to bring us together or will our untold secrets and battle of wills force us apart?

5 out of 5 stars
This book starts out hot right from chapter one with Rylee and Colton's first meeting. The ride the story takes you on is incredibly sexy, incredibly intense, and a lot of fun.

Rylee is so my type of girl…strong, independent, and not afraid to speak her mind. She is also a play it safe type of girl who is so in control of her life that she does not take time out to really enjoy it. Struggling to put her past behind her, she puts everything she has into her future. She fights for what she believes and for those she believes in.

Colton is the type of guy who does not take no for an answer. When he sees something he wants, he goes for it…and he wants Rylee. Sexy, flirtatious playboy, Colton comes into Rylee's life like a whirlwind and shakes her control. Though Colton's character is enigmatic and with enough mood changes to give a person whiplash, you see just enough through the cracks in his tough facade to know there is something there worth fighting for.

The chemistry between Rylee and Colton is sizzling, but there is more to them than just that. The interaction and banter between them is a lot of fun, and their personalities go well together….when they let down their walls and allow themselves to relax. I think one of my favorite parts of their story is their 'song talk.' The author chose her songs well to describe their situations, and now I am never going to be able to hear those songs (many of which were already on my playlist) without thinking of Rylee and Colton. After that ending, I cannot wait for book two to see where their story goes!

Q & A with K. Bromberg

Q:  Tell us a little bit about your main characters, Rylee and Colton.
A:  Rylee is a look-before-you-leap kind of girl. She is very structure, disciplined and likes to be in control—No, she needs to be in control because that is her way of dealing with the loss of someone close to her. She works for a company that takes care of orphaned children. She’s compassionate, generous, and selfless. With Rylee what you see is what you get.

Colton is kind of an enigma. Raised by a famous director, he’s one of Hollywood’s It bachelors and an up-and-coming Indy car driver. He’s that bad boy living life on the edge of out of control, running from a past that haunts him and yet there’s a sweet side to him that just dazzles when it shines through. With Colton, what you see—what you perceive—is most definitely not what you get.

Q:  Colton has been compared by reviewers to Christian Grey and Gideon Cross. How do you feel about that association?

A:  Yes, I’ve read that…I guess I could say that if someone compared me to Kate Upton or Gisele Bundchen I wouldn’t complain right?  Colton could be compared to a whole lot worse.

In all seriousness though, it’s flattering and an interesting comparison. Yes, all three are “angsty” males with mysterious pasts but I think they all have different stories to tell and pasts to overcome. I understand why people make the comparison and I can see it in part, but when you really compare the three men/characters, there are really quite different.

Q:  What was your favorite scene to write?
A:  Hmmm…off the top of my head, my favorite scene to write was probably the club scene. It’s the culmination of all of the back and forth between Rylee and Colton and there is a whole lot of sass, a whole lot of emotion, and it ends with a bang (no pun intended).

Q:  The cover for Driven is eye-catching. Who designed the cover and what was that process like for you as the author?
A:  I worked with Deborah at Tugboat Designs on the cover. I had downloaded a bunch of stock photos that I liked and sent them to her. My only direction to her was that I did not want people/bodies on the cover because I didn’t want something my kids would be embarrassed by. (Ironically, I had sent her pictures with several ‘body parts’ on them but had no intention of using them). I told her I had no clue what I wanted, but that I wanted ‘classy’ and not the old school Fabio-like cover. She did three mock ups and on one of the mock-ups, she had taken the photo I sent her of the lady’s hip and had it as a barely there shadow under her design. I saw that cover and immediately saw the lady’s hip and then it clicked what I wanted—the hip and a checkered flag. I debated back and forth on whether or not to keep the checkered flag, but we decided that it was something we could carry through all three covers for cohesion. Deborah worked with me on it a bit more to get it right and that was it.

Q:  How has your environment/upbringing colored your writing?
A:  I have extremely supportive parents that always told me I could do anything I set my mind to. My mom is extremely creative and always told me to ‘color outside of the lines’ and use my imagination…so I’m sure that helped a lot.

Q:  What do you do to unwind and relax?
A:  I have thee children under the age of seven and have a job so there is not much time for relaxing! The biggest thing I do is exercise for at least an hour every day. I use that time to clear my head and to think through plot issues or dialogue that is not working right in a scene I am writing. Besides that, my biggest relaxation is spending time with my husband and my children….oh, and who can forget reading—that’s a must for me.

Q:  Do you have any hidden talents?
A:  Um…not that I can think of…nothing too spectacular.

Q:  What book are you reading now?
A:  I just finished Tangled by Emma Chase…brilliant book. It’s hard to believe the book is written by a woman.

About the Author:  K. Bromberg was born and raised in Southern California. She graduated from University of California at San Diego with two bachelors—economics and political science—but always loved to write.

K. Bromberg remains in Southern California with her husband and their three young children. When not writing or working her day job, she can be found playing ninjas or power rangers with her son, fixing the hair of her oldest daughter’s American girl doll, trying to potty train her youngest daughter, or listening to any or all of them fight/whine at once. When she needs a break from the daily chaos, you can almost always find her with Kindle in hand, devouring the pages of a good book.
