Q & A with Grea Alexander

Tell us a little bit about your main characters.

My protagonists can best be described as quite Grea-esque, or as one of my English teachers once described me, of the Byronic Hero archetype.

I personally find goody goody characters to be more than a tad bit on the boring side. All of that glistening purity, indelible perfection and luminous righteousness all the time.... (sigh) It simply makes me want to gouge my own eyes out.

I create characters that are deeply flawed and as capable of great acts of selflessness as they are great acts of selfishness. My characters aren't afraid to get their hands dirty.
If that means crushing others in the process, so be it.

Who designs the covers for your books and what is that process like for you as an author?
I do. It's fairly simple really. I like my covers (as most things) to be tasteful & aesthetically pleasant. (There is enough ugliness in the world without me adding to it.)

Three of my titles currently feature my own photographs.

Describe your ideal writing spot.
I don't really have an ideal writing spot that I use per se. However, if I had to conjure one up in my mind, it would be somewhere serene, somewhere surrounded by nature…kind of like an Herbal Essences commercial without all the lather.

Yes, I would still be naked.

And yes, there would probably be quite a few interludes that involved me lightly and sensuously stroke my hair and skin as well.

And moaning. Let's not forget the moaning.

What is the best advice you have been given?
When you go before the judge, widen your eyes and try to look innocent. Life-like tears, brow furrowing and lip trembling are a plus.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A writer. No really. I used to tell people that I would be a famous writer one day.

I also would have loved to be an opera singer or a dancer. Maybe a dancing opera singer. Yes, Jessye Norman and Paula Abdul's love child.


Which do you prefer: hard/paperbacks or ebooks?
I prefer physical books. I like the weight of a book in my hand - the sound of the pages as I turn them and the feel of the paper between my fingers. I also enjoy my bookmark falling out and trying desperately to remember what page I was on.

And the paper cuts. Let's not forget the paper cuts.

Good times. (sigh)

I'm probably one of the most anti-technology people ever. In my personal life, I don't adopt new technology until I basically have no other choice. And when I say I have no choice, I mean you literally can no longer get it to work, get support or even buy the software/accessories for it anymore.

It's kind of ironic. I know 26+ computer programs, type over 80 wpm, am a certified advanced user on many programs and have made a living off of my computer skills for 20+ years.

What can I say?

I'm the equivalent of a technological Wizard of Oz. Grea knows all, but pull back the curtain and you have a funny little character that rebukes all things newfangled.


If you could have any supernatural power, what would you choose and why?
Telekinesis. So I would always win casino games/the lottery…..and I could thoroughly punish all who would dare defy me.

What book are you reading now?
Absolutely nothing. (sigh)

My life is a busy, hot mess right now. I've decided to actually dedicate some time to actually trying to promote my work. A novel concept indeed.
