Dr. Alex Campbell has an agenda—finish his contract to provide medical services in Maine, pay off his medical school debt, and head back to his real life in San Diego. But when he meets Julia, all his carefully laid plans are put in jeopardy.

Julia Stewart, Lobster Cove’s high school principal, swears she’ll never let another man drag her away from the home she loves. Her aging parents need her, and the Cove is where she wants to raise her daughter. When her mother’s illness brings her and the big city doctor closer together, panic sets in. Her marriage taught her men don’t stay.

Can she put aside the heartaches of the past and trust Alex enough to accept the love he’s offering?

Or will her fear of abandonment mean she’ll send him away forever?

When Jana Richards read her first romance novel, she immediately knew two things: she had to commit the stories running through her head to paper, and they had to end with a happily ever after. She also knew she’d found what she was meant to do. Since then she’s never met a romance genre she didn’t like. She writes contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and historical romance set in World War Two, in lengths ranging from short story to full length novel.

Just for fun, she throws in generous helpings of humor, and the occasional dash of the paranormal. Her paranormal romantic suspense “Seeing Things” was a 2008 EPPIE finalist.

In her life away from writing, Jana is an accountant/admin assistant, a mother to two grown daughters, and a wife to her husband Warren. She enjoys golf, yoga, movies, concerts, travel and reading, not necessarily in that order. She and her husband live in Winnipeg, Canada with their Pug/Terrier cross Lou and several unnamed goldfish.

Q & A with Author Jana Richards
Q:  Tell us a little bit about your main characters.
A:
Julia Stewart was born and raised in the small town of Lobster Cove, Maine, the setting of
ONE MORE SECOND CHANCE. She is a single parent to her six year old daughter Ava, and she’s the principal of the local high school. She and her ex-husband spent several years teaching in Thailand before Ava was born, but Julia swears she’ll never leave Lobster Cove again. Her best friends live in the Cove, and it’s where she wants to raise her daughter. Besides, she has too many responsibilities here. Her students need her to fight for them, and her parents are getting older and they need her, too. Her life is too full and too complicated to include a romantic relationship, especially with a man who’s only planning to stay in Lobster Cove for a short time.

Alex Campbell accepted the position as a doctor in Lobster Cove as a way to help pay down his medical school debt. Being from San Diego, he finds life in a small town somewhat challenging. Everybody knows everybody’s business, and they make a sport of gossiping about each other. He was shocked by how much people knew about him before he even arrived! And then there’s the weather. He’s used to the sun of California, not the cold winds of the north Atlantic. He has no intention of staying in town beyond his contract obligation. But when he meets Julia, he begins to wonder if he could make a life in Lobster Cove. Would the work here challenge him enough? Could he come to embrace the small town way of life? Is he ready to be a father to her daughter? When he decides the answer to all three questions is yes, he has to convince Julia he’s in Lobster Cove to stay.

Q:  Describe your ideal writing spot.
A:
My ideal writing spot is anywhere I can comfortably set up my laptop. Sometimes I work in my office, sometimes on the dining room table, and in the summer I’m often out on the deck where I can enjoy my flowers. I’ve even taken my writing on the road. Every spring I go on a writing retreat with some of my writer friends. We stay at a monastery which takes in guests who go on retreat for a variety of reasons. We each have our own rooms in which to write, but get together for meals and fellowship in the evenings. I’ve also tagged along with my husband in the past when he had to go away on business. While he worked, I hung out in the hotel room with my laptop. As much as I love the monastery, I think hotel writing is my favorite. I don’t even have to fix my own bed!
Q:  How do you keep busy when you're not writing?
A:
It’s not hard to keep busy when I’m not writing! First of all there’s my part-time day job. For some reason, they insist that I show up for work from time to time. I spend plenty of time on marketing activities, such as writing guest posts like this one. When I actually have free time, I like to spend it doing things with my husband like visiting with friends and family, going to movies, concerts and live theater. We also play golf in the summer. Well, he plays golf – I whack a ball around a golf course, usually into the bushes. I make an attempt at keeping fit by taking regular yoga and Pilates classes, though I’m feeling guilty because I really think I should be working out more!

Q:  If you could have any superhuman ability, what would you choose and why?
A:
It would be the ability to go without sleep. Can you imagine how much writing I could get done if I didn’t have to sleep?

Q:  Which do you prefer: hard/paperbacks or ebooks?
A:
And don’t forget audio books. I use all three depending on the situation. If I’m driving a long distance in my car, an audio book on my MP3 player is great. If I’m travelling and want to take several books with me, I load them on my ereader. If I’m at home, a print book suits me fine, and really, you can’t beat the feel of a real book in your hands. All three have their place.

Q:  What book are you reading now?
A:
My niece loaned me several of Susan Mallery’s books in her
Fool’s Gold series, all in paperback, and I’m reading them now. I love the way she’s built her small town and peopled it with characters that readers can really care about.

One Less Warlock by Judith Post

One Less Warlock by Judith Post My rating: 4 of 5 stars I think it's hard in a short story to create a unique setting, characters, etc., and still get some sort of story line in. In One Less Warlock, Judith did an excellent job of molding the story in such a way that we got a taste of a distinct world and character personalities, and a complete story to go with it. In this short story Judith was able to pack in witches, vampires, a sexy Were, succubus, voodoo, murder, and mystery, all in only about 20 pages. Pretty amazing. I enjoyed the story and Babet, the main character, and am looking forward to more of her in the future. View all my reviews
