Interview + Giveaway: Make Me Wet by Nara Malone

Make Me Wet (Passions Portal #2)
by Nara Malone

Genre: Paranormal
Publisher: Ellora’s Cave
Number of pages: 77
Cover Artist: Syneca

Seven tears cast upon the water summon the selkie, summon seal across the ocean, summon man from beast—liquid keys to break the curse. Freed one night every seven years, Ronin is doomed to repeat that cycle into eternity. Unless he can find a woman powerful enough to resist a selkie’s irresistible pheromones and sex magick.

Maille believes she lost reality between Maine and New Mexico. Between where she is now and where she should be. She believes in facts, not magick. But facts can’t explain how she wound up naked on a beach with the sexiest man she’s ever laid eyes on. Or how she knows in her bones that losing herself in the passion Ronin offers is a path to disaster.

It’s going to be a long, hot, wet night. Caught between sex magick and a sexy selkie, disaster is inevitable for Maille. To break the enchantment she has to rely on the oldest magick of all—the power of love-drenched hearts.

4 out of 5 stars

I love anything shape shifty, and selkies are no exception.  This is only the second selkie book I've read, but they are becoming a favorite of mine.  In this short but sexy story, Maille is trying to understand the odd things going on around her when she crosses paths with Ronin.  Ronin, a selkie set free only once every seven years, wants only one thing from the woman who freed him with her tears.

I loved the chemistry between the characters from the very start.  Maille is a great female lead.  She was smart and strong enough to hold her own against Ronin.  Ronin is everything a girl wants in a man – sexy, passionate, and demanding but at the same time sweet and understanding.  Both characters had internal struggles to overcome, and I thought the author did an excellent job of creating a full complete story in a novella length book.  The magick and mythology introduced in this world are quite interesting, and I'd love to learn more about that aspect of the story.

Q: Tell us a little bit about your main characters.
Ronin is a selkie, cursed by the Goddess Mere to spend his life as a seal, allowed one night as a man every seven years to serve the woman whose tears call him from the sea. The only way to break the curse is for Ronin to find a woman who can resist his magical selkie pheromones all night long.

Maille has always intuitively understood the needs of animals. She rebels against the magical blood flowing in her veins, insisting there is no magic in the world, only scientific facts.

Maille can learn to accept magic or Ronin can escape his enchantment. What is best for one will be disaster for the other.

Q:  What was your favorite scene to write?
I loved writing the scene where the goddess showed up to confront Ronin. She’s full of attitude and hurling lightning bolts. It was one of those scenes that just fell out of my pen, unplanned, just ahead of the crisis. I enjoy stories that surprise me.

Q:  What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
When a story takes me over, I can write sixteen hours in a day, at the computer from the time I wake up until just before bed. That’s okay for novellas, but for longer fiction I need a more practical pace and I’ll work from Around 4 AM until noon.

Q:  How has your environment/upbringing colored your writing?

My Daddy loved the outdoors—the sea and the forest. I inherited that love or more accurately he nurtured that love in me and it’s a part of my writing. It’s probably a big factor in why most of my stories are about shifters.

Q:  If you could be any character from your book, who would you be and why?
Oh, that’s hard. I think I’d like to be Maille--caught between a sexy selkie and a wild kelpie.

Q:  What do you do to unwind and relax?

When I have a rough week and need to escape reality for awhile, I’ll log into a virtual world and go exploring all the beautiful worlds users create. Most of the words are based on books or movies, so I discover new books that way.

Q:  If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I’d like to go to Alaska. I think of it as the last great frontier and hope one day I’ll get to have a summer vacation there.

Q:  What book are you reading now?
The Daring Prey by S. J. Lewis
