To Tame a Montana Heart by Dawn Luedecke

Title: To Tame a Montana Heart

Series: Montana Girl Series, Book One

Author: Dawn Luedecke

Genre: Western Historical

Page Count: 308

Book Description: Running from a past of privilege, deceit, and danger, Travis Simms is ready to settle down. What better place to forget all he left behind than the quiet little Montana town of Lolo Hot Springs? His goal is clear — build a hotel and his own destiny without complications —until one of the town’s most troublesome women captures his attention.

Dusty Larson is hell bent on independence, helping her sister run the Triple D Ranch. She can do anything a man can, and do it better, so she certainly doesn’t need one in her life. The only problem is she seems to attract bad luck and danger...and Travis. Can he tame her wild ways and keep his bachelor status intact — or does he risk losing his heart?
Missoula Montana
One thing I love is when a setting for a book exudes romance in every facet. What I
love to do is find romance in history and use that in my books. In ‘To Tame a
Montana Heart’, I found many interesting facts that make Missoula (and its
surrounding towns) the perfect setting.

The history of Missoula begins even before the Salish, Kootenai, and Pend d’Oreille

Indian tribes inhabited the area. In 1805, Lewis and Clark camped near what is now

Lolo, in order to wait out the winter before traveling over the Lolo Pass and in to

Idaho. Sixty years later, the first European American’s would settle the valley.

Years later, the soldiers at Fort Missoula would bring in camels to help them with the

‘Indian affairs’ (moving the rivaling tribes onto the Flathead Indian Reservation). The

stubborn animals would become too difficult for even the handlers, and thus those

that hadn’t already escaped were released into the wild.

Many of these facts are used in ‘To Tame a Montana Heart’. At the beginning o the

story, Dusty and Travis find a rogue camel in a herd of wild mustang, and animal

lover Dusty falls instantly in love with the odd creature. Later in the story, they take a

group of Eastern tourists on a ‘wild west adventure’, following the same trail that

Lewis and Clark took. Many events happen along the way to thrill the tourists, but

leave Dusty and Travis scrambling for their lives.

4 of 5 stars
Travis is everything you want in a hero. He is a sexy, funny, smart, well-mannered gentleman. After coming to the aid of Dusty and her sister, DeEtte, he quickly realizes that these were no damsels in distress. Caught up in the wild lives of the Larson sisters, Travis' life takes a turn he never could have imagined.

Dusty is so much fun. She is my kind of girl. Strong and independent, she helps her sister run the Triple D Ranch. She does not let an opportunity go by to show the guys that she can do anything they can – and she can do it better. Put Dusty and Travis in the same room together and watch the temperature rise!

I enjoyed the humor in the book, and the language used put me right into the time era and setting. As I was reading the characters even had country drawls in my head! All of the characters were great fun – even the bad guys were delectably bad. Filled with handsome cowboys, spunky cowgirls, barn raisings, cattle rustling, outlaws on the run, saloons with bullet holes in the doors, rodeos, and even a camel named Clyde, this book has it all. This was such a fun story!

About the Author
A country girl born and bred, Dawn Luedecke has spent most of her life surrounded by horses, country folk, and the wild terrain of Nevada, Idaho and Montana. As a child she would spend many afternoons reading books, watching western classics, and Rogers and Hammerstein movies.

When she grew up she decided to leave the quiet country life for a chance to find adventure by serving a successful tour in the United States Coast Guard. During that time she found her soul mate (and alpha male) and started a family and writing career. She enjoys writing historical and paranormal romance and spends as much time as she can working on her current manuscript.
