She doesn’t need a hero. But a sexy Marine…that’ll work.

Though Lauren Baxter’s world is a blurry mess of colors, she has no tolerance for pity. With the help of her guide dog, Jack Sparrow, she’s built a good life for herself. She has everything she wants: her PhD, a thriving counseling practice and her independence.

When she meets her new neighbor, the man’s warm Texas accent and clean male scent weaken her knees. Her attraction to the former Marine is mutual and, unfortunately, a complication she doesn’t need.

Gabriel Briggs carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. He has his reasons for indulging only in short-term flings, but the feisty, green-eyed Lauren makes him want to forget every one.

In a rare moment of fragility, Lauren winds up in Gabe’s arms. One night together can’t break their self-imposed rules, right? But when a woman from Gabe’s past is murdered, the reasons he should have stayed away become painfully clear, threatening innocent lives he may not be able to save—especially Lauren’s.

Product Warnings
Contains a blind therapist who doesn’t consider herself impaired; a meddling, erotic-novel-writing best friend; a hot ex-Marine with a shady past; and a loyal guide dog that howls “I love you” and is probably the sanest one of the bunch.

Q & A with Kishan Paul

1. Tell us a little bit about your main characters.
Great question. I love talking/rambling about my characters Let’s start with the lovely Lauren:

At twenty nine, psychologist Lauren Baxter has a successful counseling practice. Since becoming legally blind at fifteen, her world has been a blurry mess of colors. Her greatest fear is also her ultimate reality. One day that fuzzy realm will forever turn black. Refusing to let blindness define her, she builds a life for herself with her dog, Jack Sparrow, and best friend, Sunny Daye. Lauren has no tolerance for pity or for Superman swooping down and rescuing her and people have tried. She was married once until her she realized her husband was having an affair. Her parents are a tad bit controlling and are constantly trying to get her to move back home with them.

Lauren is a runner, both for exercise and with men. She is very lean, has dark hair, and lovely green eyes. She’s tried dating a few times but never felt a spark with anyone. Which is fine by her, she’s totally content with her life…until everything gets interrupted by Gabe.

Speaking of sexy Gabe:

Gabriel Briggs has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He’s a former marine who flips houses for a living and has moved around frequently. The six foot two inch man has dark blue eyes and dark hair and plenty of muscles to carry all the baggage he lugs around. Short term flings are all he can afford for more reasons than one – reasons he never plans to share. All that changes when he moves in next door to the beautiful, green eyed, feisty, Lauren. He is intrigued by the sexy therapist who insists she has a boyfriend. One night with her and he’s reconsidering promises he made almost a decade ago.

2. Describe your ideal writing spot.

I don’t really have an ideal writing spot. The kitchen table, the dining room, on my sofa, in my office, in the car -- I can write just about anywhere and have a tendency to get bored of staying in one spot for too long. Regardless of where I sit, it needs to be quiet and absolutely boring. As cool as the idea of writing by a beach or in the mountains is, I’d get so lost in the scenery, I’d never get more than a few words written—trust me I’ve tried.

3. What is the best advice you have been given?

The best advice I have been given is the same I would give to other authors: This is a hard and long process and most of the time you’ll question yourself and your story. Thicken your skin, don’t give up, and one day you can look back and say “Wow did I really do that?” Make friends with other writers, they understand where you are and how you feel. And don’t forget to pay attention to your readers. They are so important in this journey.

4. How do you keep busy when you're not writing?

In my other world, I’m a therapist in private practice and have been for about fifteen years. I love working with emotions and helping people heal. It’s probably why I loved working on this story and writing about Lauren and Gabe’s pain so much. I’m also a mom to two amazing little monsters and have been married for over seventeen years to a man who knows to just shake his head and walk away.

5. Which do you prefer: hard/paperbacks or ebooks?

I love hard/paperback books. There’s something cool about turning the pages and being able to read it anywhere and at any time. Ebooks are growing on me though, just for the ease of access you have in getting them. But in the end, I will always choose paper over electronic.

6. What book are you reading now?

I just finished Jennifer Armentrout’s Lux series. OMG. I loved it.

Thank you for having me on your blog and for all you do for authors and readers alike. Now I’m going to shut up and find something to read…
